Where to start? What do I do? Can anybody show a cat?  What do I need and how much does it cost? Who do I contact?
These are all excellent questions!
Let's take a look because if you have an interest, CFA would love to have you be part of the family of cat lovers and enjoy the fun of showing your cat.

To Start:  What cat do you have?  A pedigreed cat? A new kitten? A gorgeous friendly HHP (Household Pet)? These are all show cats!  They are all welcome to CFA and cat shows and it doesn't take much to get started.  Anybody can show a cat.   Basically, a show cat meets requirements to enter a show in one of the four competitive categories.  They are either a kitten, champion, or premier or HHP.  They should be healthy and well-groomed and sociable to others (both people and other cats nearby) in a different environment.  Sometimes you don't know if you kitty will like being shown but you will never know unless you give it a whirl.

We call this having a "show personality", which many can have when they are well cared for and loved.  They cannot be declawed.  Find the show you would like to enter not he CFA calendar of events at www.cfa.org.  You will also find the online entry form here.  Your kitty will need a place to stay between judging rings so an enclosure is required.  Many shows have wire enclosures available but there are also other options that can be purchased reasonably.  The primary cost of showing your kitty is the entry fee.  Additionally, you may have food and lodging expenses.  There is a wealth of information on CFA's website.  You can start at www.CFA.org, or go directly to www.newexhibitor.cfa.org.  This site tells you everything from filling out the entry form, to being show ready, to the dos and don'ts.

Showing cats in CFA started in 1906, its history is rich and is for all kinds of folks.  We love new exhibitors to share this hobby, make lifelong friends in any competitive category, and work with your kitty for breed, regional, or national awards and recognition.

Bring your camera!!
